Allen House & Amherst Inn,
Two charming Victorian
B & Bs in historic Amherst, Massachusetts

Reviews

We were so lucky!

The house is a tour de force. Each room is unique and was restored with great care for details. I could not believe the beauty of the wallpapers, lace curtains and antiques. We even had towel warmers and chocolate. Hot drinks and cookies are available at all times. We had a delightful stay, my daughter and I. Owners are super friendly, as are their cats. The breakfast, hosted at the Amherst inn, is delicious and copious. What a gem!

One of the Nicest Inns I have stayed in!

I cannot say enough about this place! The proprietors Ann and Allen are the nicest people. Their hospitality is beyond belief and very genuine. The rooms are very clean. The decor is commendable. Their breakfast is very good. This place is a must see. My boyfriend picked this place for a Valentine's Day weekend getaway. I could not have been more delighted with his choice. This Inn very well maintained and is a short walk from the Main Street Center which offers an abundance of little coffee shops and take out restaurants. We will definitely be returning in the Spring or Summer to enjoy the Inn's garden and yard.

Charming historic inn

We stayed here while visiting Amherst College. The inn is charming, beautiful, and spotless. The host goes out of her way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The breakfast was delicous with many choices. Recommend very highly!!!

Charming, authentic old-style

This is a beautiful place and the owners are kind, respectful, very helpful. The room I had (the Napoleon room) was clean, very spacious, filled with authentic Victorian furniture and decorations, had full running AC. The building (Amherst Inn) is just across the street from the Emily Dickinson Museum and a short 5 min. walk from the main area of Amherst. Breakfast is served and cooked by the owner and she makes excellent scrambled eggs! The dining area is very small (which may be an issue in the time of Covid) but everyone wore masks so I felt safe and protected. I would definitely re-book!

Welcoming, small town atmosphere

This inn and its partner down Main Street about half a kilometer are comfortable, well attired older Amherst homes with very friendly, flexible staff, comfortable accommodations, and all the necessary basic amenities (toiletries with small but clean and well organized bathrooms; free wireless; and breakfast included). There are a limited number of parking spots by the Amherst Inn and a few along the side street. The decor is classic New England with some quirks and plenty of promotional material on local history and cultural options. And the price is quite reasonable!

A great place to stay

This is a quiet and comfortable place to stay. Our thanks to owner, Alan, who we got to know and shared with us his favorite ice cream before we headed off to bed. And special thanks to Pam for showing us around, making sure we had everything we needed and then made us a fabulous breakfast in the morning. She even gave me a personal lesson in the kitchen on how to cook the perfect fried egg! I'll be cooking them that way from now on. Thanks Pam!

Amherst Inn ~ a glorious stay

This magnificent bed and breakfast at 257 Main St., is a tremendous way to experience the quaint and utterly lovely 150 year old house! As an English teacher, the most profound experience I've had, by far, is to enjoy a room directly across the street from the Emily Dickinson Homestead! Ann and Pam are the most hospitable and helpful innkeepers, who go above and beyond to help and show you Amherst hospitality!! I will continue to go nowhere else, except for this beautiful Inn! Thank you, Ann and Pam, for a fantastic stay!! See you soon, ladies!

Friendly greeting from staff and cats in quaint property

This old house was chock full of artifacts from the last 2 centuries, making for a crowd of gewgaws at every turn. Whether charming or merely distracting, it was interesting to note the New England remembrances and objects. The bed was comfy, the shower was modern, the breakfast was excellent. Staff was helpful. The 2 resident cats were sometimes friendly, but there was a little cat hair on some sitting areas. There was no tv set in the room for occasional viewing.

(Owner’s note: TV is in the living room. Free internet for streaming on your device, too.)

Genuine B&B experience

For anyone who longs for the good old days of B&Bs where you met your host, mingled with other guests over breakfast, and enjoyed the comfort of a private room, come to the Allen House Victorian Inn or its associated Amherst Inn. The decors are pleasingly Victorian, but the comforts (hot water, heat, wifi) are modern. The hosts are welcoming. Breakfast is served at the nearby Amherst Inn -- a nice selection of hot mains along with fresh fruit, toast, muffins, etc. Allen House is a ten-minute walk from Amherst College, and downtown Amherst shops and restaurants.
